Major Telstra outage causing nationwide disruptions to Triple Zero network

Cut emergency cable sparks Triple Zero crash across Australian capitals as the Telstra network goes down for the second time in three days

Telstra fibre fix crew are on site at cable pit east of Orange, NSW, after a suspected lightning strike caused this morning's Telstra outage.

The telco has posted a picture on Twitter of the charred pit, where crews are now working to restore service, saying it showed "significant fire damage consistent with lightning strike".

They said they are working to restore services as soon as possible, but WA is now still experiencing some interruptions.

People across the country are having major troubles trying to get through to Emergency Services this morning due to a serious Telstra technical issue.

Phone systems are also being impacted, with landline and mobile services impacted.

"We are deeply sorry for the interruptions". However, the telco revealed at approximately 6.30am that it had become aware of a problem with Triple Zero calls.

"If unable to get through on Triple Zero, callers requiring any of the emergency services should call Police Assistance Line on 131 444".

South Australia Police issued similar advice as to the number to be called.

It's the second widespread network outage for Telstra within a week.

A lightning strike was suspected to be the cause of the outage. However, an issue occurred with the routing of some traffic which resulted in intermittent disruptions to E000 calls.

Earlier this week Telstra suffered problems with its 4G voice services.
