Celtic secured a seventh-consecutive Scottish Premiership title by thrashing bitter rivals Rangers.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is in Glasgow for further talks over the managerial role at Rangers, according to the Daily Mail.

Boyd, who now plays for Kilmarnock, expressed bafflement at the goings on at his old club who are currently coached by interim boss Graeme Murty.

Gerrard has been constantly linked with the Ibrox hot-seat for nearly a week now but the club's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of arch enemies Celtic yesterday might be making the ex-England captain think twice.

"I suppose as a football club Rangers can't be trying to get someone like Steven who is young, hungry and ambitious to go there and try and compete and sell him a dummy". It seems as if they are trying to grab everything to see if what you grab works rather than having a plan, a structure. From Stevie's perspective, I know he has always wanted to manage.

Express Sport understands Rangers made good progress with Gerrard last week and are hopeful of appointing him as the new boss.

"And I don't think he's going to put myself in a position where he goes into a job with his hands tied in terms of the resources he's got to compete with Brendan".

After chairman Dave King cast fresh doubt on whether the ex-Scotland worldwide defender would have his contract renewed in the summer - ahead of the Gers' 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final hammering from Rodgers' rampant Celts in the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-finals - it emerged that Steven Gerrard was the frontrunner to take over in the build-up to yesterday's confrontation.

The club remain hopeful that a deal will be completed with the Liverpool youth team coach by the end of the week.

"I think he's probably needing some more reassurances".

Murphy said: "The only thing with that, I was thinking really, is that how do you get concrete reassurances with something like that?"

"As a striker, you want to score as many as you can so I will go to Ibrox on Saturday looking to score".
