13 semis line up across all lanes of traffic to save suicidal man in Michigan

Heroic Truckers Use Their Rigs to Stop Suicidal Man From Jumping Off Bridge

According to WJBK, dispatch received a call about a man on a bridge over I-696 early Tuesday morning around 1 a.m.

Michigan State Police shut down east and westbound lanes and began organizing the semi-trucks to park under the overpass.

"This photo does show the work troopers and local officers do to serve the public", the MSP Metro Detroit tweet said.

Detroit station WJBK-TV reported that semitruck drivers joined police on Highway 696 in Oak Park, Michigan, at the Coolidge bridge at about 1 a.m.

If he jumped, police reasoned with a truck below him, the fall would be a much shorter distance and he'd have a better chance of surviving than if he fell from the overpass onto the highway.

Michigan State Police troopers blocked all lanes of traffic.

He was then taken by Huntington Woods police to Beaumont hospital for evaluation.

If you are having suicidal thoughts, we urge you to get help immediately.

Veteran drivers say they're not surprised to see this selfless act to stop for several hours to make sure this man went home safely. If you or a loved one is struggling, help is available through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
