Farquhar, who remains in critical condition at RUSH University Medical Center, has use of his extremities, is responding appropriately to questions and commands and is speaking to doctors and his family.

According to USA Today, Farquhar will remain under the close supervision of neurosurgeons for at least the next few weeks while he remains hospitalized.

Farquhar, 31, collapsed in the dugout during the sixth inning of Friday's game against the Astros after facing four batters.

It's been a weekend of concern for White Sox players and fans following the brain hemorrhage and ruptured aneurysm suffered by pitcher Danny Farquhar on Friday.

"You want their pitching and baseball lives to be wonderful, " pitching coach Don Cooper said.

He underwent a complicated procedure on Saturday to relieve swelling around his brain.

"Let the medical staff do what they can do and then at the appropriate time, everybody will let us know when it's OK to go ahead and reach out and go see him", he said. "He's such a resilient human being, and we're praying for him". "Right now he's being treated, and hopefully it's all going to be good". Farquhar is under the care of Dr. Demetrius Lopes and the Rush neurosurgical team.

Farquhar was transferred to the 60-day disabled list before Monday night's game against Seattle.

Renteria recalled Saturday that when they met, Farquhar told the manager he had been Farquhar's favorite player growing up in Florida.

"It's certainly a heavy heart type of day when one of your teammates is dealing with that, and certainly as a baseball family we all understand it", Hinch said.

Farquhar and his wife are the parents of three children, ages 7 months to 6 years.

"I've had text messages from across the league", Shields said.
