Fleury records second shutout of 2018 NHL playoffs

The Vegas Golden Knights just swept a playoff series, as an expansion team

The under is 7-0-1 in the last eight Kings games versus a team with a winning road record.

They were 200-1 odds to win the Stanley Cup at the start of the season, and now they are 4-1 odds, tied with the Nashville Predators for the best.

In Game 2, during the first overtime, the Golden Knights killed a delay of game penalty on Bellemare, with the Kings getting one shot on goal. Fleury has stopped 96-of-99 shots through 9+ periods for.970 save percentage and 0.84 goals against average.

Congratulations, Vegas. Now the Golden Knights can relax and wait to see if they're going to draw the San Jose Sharks or Anaheim Ducks in the second round.

Coach Gerard Gallant has emphasized the depth of his roster all season, and it showed in this series.

While a Golden Knights Stanley Cup win would be on par with a bad National Football League weekend for sportsbooks, some individual liabilities do stand out.

The goaltending was undoubtedly phenomenal on both sides, and because of that I don't think Marc-Andre Fleury, as great as he was, was the difference in this series.

So far, so good for the Avs. They were on even terms after 40 minutes of Game 1, and they almost made a comeback complete in Game 2 before falling one goal short. They outshot the Knights 31-21 in the game.

It is all about Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog at this point.

The Preds are loaded with talented, and it does not seem probable that Filip Forsberg, Viktor Avidsson, Ryan Johansen, Roman Josi or P.K. Subban will let the Avs gets any closer.

Carter, Doughty, Tyler Toffoli, Tanner Pearson, Adrian Kempe and pretty much every recognizable name that the Kings have relied on to push them through this year laid a big fat goose egg. Case in point? Fleury's.908 SP during Pittsburgh's 2009 title run was the worst by a Stanley Cup-winning starting netminder since Tom Barrasso, coincidentally also of the Penguins, posted a.907 SP during 1992 playoffs.

Shot locations weren't the only area the Golden Knights dominated either; just look at offensive zone passes that lead to better quality shots. McNabb scored the lone goal of Game 4, his first in nine playoff games, at 4:04 of the second period. Even though it didn't work out last game, if Kopitar can get back on the scoresheet a time or two tonight it will help immensely in the Kings' chances of staying alive.

Also of note, regionalized coverage of Colorado-Nashville and New Jersey-Tampa Bay on NBC/CNBC on Saturday afternoon averaged a TAD of 1.702 million viewers, up 51 percent vs. coverage of Boston-Ottawa on NBC previous year (1.130 million viewers). Schneider has a 1.42 GAA and a.957 save percentage, while Kinkaid had a 5.88 GAA and a putrid.804 save percentage.
