Stabbing on BU's Campus, Suspect At Large

It's not considered a random act.

The university, part of the State University of NY, alerted students to the cancellation hours after an unidentified 19-year-old male freshman was stabbed to death on campus Sunday night. The 19-year-old victim could not be saved.

"Investigators from multiple agencies have been interviewing numerous people throughout the night", a statement from the university read. Binghamton University's website says that the suspect fled after the stabbing and now remains at large.

"The last two months have been very, very hard", an emotional BU President Harvey Stenger said.

Faughnan did not identify the suspect, and said investigators have not verified whether he is a current BU student.

Classes were canceled on Monday as state and campus police spent the day searching the campus for evidence and the suspect.

BU is offering counseling services for those impacted by the event.

"If there is information that relates to the immediate welfare of students and the campus community, we will communicate it via our alert system", the university said.
