Michael Avenatti, a lawyer for Stormy Daniels, also made an appearance at the hearing.

Avenatti spoke outside the court at Friday's hearing and then followed with a suggestive tweet that "the weather forecast for Monday looks very Stormy". They claim it's protected by attorney-client privilege. Hendon, that claimed she was hired by Trump day, urged Wood maybe not to decide that gets got right up until after she files a short while by Sunday 33, inspection documents that were seized.

Cohen often recorded telephone conversations both before and during the 2016 presidential campaign that also could have been scooped up in the Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on his apartment, office and hotel room, sources told CNN.

"Confirmation of the trip would lend credence to a retired British spy's report that Cohen strategized there with a powerful Kremlin figure about Russian meddling in the USA election".

Following the hearing Friday, the judge ordered the parties to return to court Monday for another hearing, where Cohen will have to be present.

Cohen, however, said the officials who conducted the raid had been courteous and professional. Trump has denied their accusations. Authorities revealed that they searched a number of email accounts used by Cohen.

Herndon, Trump's lawyer, said that after the process is resolved, the ultimate outcome on what documents are deemed unprivileged may produce new litigation.

In response to Cohen's motion to prevent prosecutors from using evidence collected in Monday's raids of his home and office, the U.S. attorney in NY asserted the raids were authorized by a federal judge to seek evidence of conduct "for which Cohen is under criminal investigation".

Michael Cohen, left, President Donald Trump's personal attorney, stands with his attorney Stephen Ryan on September 19, 2017, after finding out the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing at which they were to appear was canceled.

With the FBI's raid threatening to expose the details behind those dealings, and ongoing criminal investigation, it is understandable why Trump's fiercely loyal attorney felt the need to spend a casual afternoon with his friends.

Trump's fiercely loyal personal attorney Michael Cohen chose to smoke cigars with his buddies while a judge chastised his lawyers in the court.

Even so, prosecutors said they have provided Cohen and his lawyers with documents that describe the federal criminal statutes under which Cohen is being investigated.

"What they are trying to do is use attorney-client privilege as a sword to challenge the government's ability to review evidence" obtained lawfully, McKay added.

When asked whether Trump is still associated with Cohen, Sanders said, "I am not sure..."

Investigators raided Cohen's home and office on Monday.

The special counsel investigation is being run by Robert Mueller, who is looking at Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Sources said, according to the warrant, investigators sought records related to Cohen's interactions with adult-film star Stormy Daniels, who claims she had a one-night stand with Trump in 2006, and Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claims they had a 10-month affair from 2006 to 2007.
