Volkswagen has appointed Herbert Diess as CEO

Volkswagen names new chief executive in boardroom revamp
Diess is due to outline the group's new leadership structure in front of the supervisory board on Friday, two sources said. The idea is reportedly to start fresh after the latest round of scandals related to diesel vehicle emissions.
Volkswagen has picked a new leader in a management shakeup to ready the world's largest automaker for a wave of technological change upending the industry's traditional business models.
Herbert Diess, the designated chief executive officer (CEO) of German carmaker Volkswagen, wants to increase the corporate powers associated with his new position, the magazine "SPIEGEL" reported on Wednesday.
Mueller, 64, was head of Volkswagen's richly profitable Porsche division when he unexpectedly was handed the CEO job in September 2015.
Granting the truck unit more independence from the larger passenger-car business marks the culmination of efforts by division chief Andreas Renschler.
In tapping the 59-year-old Mr Diess for the top job, Volkswagen would elevate a senior executive from its own ranks, while handing the reins to someone who was not at the carmaker when the diesel-cheating scandal began. That project became much more urgent as the diesel scandal generated massive costs, and meant taking on established interest groups.
"Herbert Diess was imported from BMW in 2015 and tasked with improving the performance of the VW brand", Warburton said in a note.
He launched an ambitious reform plan, including investing billions of euros in electric vehicles, but has struggled to push through changes to create a more efficient and focused company. It's a sign of real change at VW.
Including Mr Mueller, VW's management board totals nine people, with responsibilities ranging from purchasing to legal affairs to financing and human resources.
Without citing its sources, Spiegel said Karlheinz Blessing, who was appointed management board member with responsibility for human resources on January 1, 2016, would be replaced by Gunnar Kilian, secretary general of VW's works council.
Mr Mueller - a veteran of the German auto company - was promoted from his role heading the Porsche division to take the job heading the entire group. That spurred his move to Volkswagen.
Volkswagen on Tuesday issued a cryptic statement saying Mueller has "showed his general willingness" to contribute to changes to the CEO job as part of a review of the group's management structure.
