Many social media users say the donation of Broncos player Logan Boulet's organs has inspired them to become donors themselves, with health officials in British Columbia and Ontario also saying online registrations surged in the days following the horrific crash.

Only 20 per cent of Canadians have registered as organ donors, she said, despite surveys suggesting that 90 per cent of the country supports the cause.

The Canadian Press reports that by Monday, April 8, almost 900 people in Alberta had expressed interest in becoming an organ donor, compared to the average of 425 normally seen over a two-day period.

A spokesperson for Manitoba's organ donation agency said there has been a "remarkable" jump in signups since the Friday crash, with more than 300 people registering as organ donors.

You can go to www.giftoflife.on.ca to find out more about signing up.

She thinks the conversation around organ donations should begin in schools. And although local registration rates are higher, with 72 percent of adults in Kansas and 75 percent of adults in Missouri registered as organ donors, the demand still far exceeds the supply. The students share with me how the campaign became personal as Ashley Panahagahi has family members in need of organ donation.

Ronnie Gavsie, president and CEO of the Trillium Gift of Life Network, called Boulet "an example to all Canadians". "We work with empathy and compassion and coordinate things and just try to make it as seamless as possible", Allen says.

That's as we hear the terrifying figure that three people die needlessly every day waiting for an organ.

"What makes Logan such a hero is that he actually took action", Gavsie said. It now has 900 people on the waiting list.

A flag raising ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon outside the Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute to celebrate "National Donate Life" month.

They want to remind people it only takes one person to save a life.

"The increase in donations and transplants is made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and their families".
