Spring winter storm arrives tonight

Snow expected in New York City on Monday

The calendar may say its spring, but winter still has a firm grip on much of the Northeast region.

Dozens of schools canceled classes today as the snow began to accumulate, including the Wausau, Rhinelander, Stevens Point, Crandon and Marshfield districts.

A Colorado low pressure system is expected to intensify into an early spring storm as it races across southern and central Ontario tonight.

The model also shows that Bozeman could get close to 16 inches of snow and Livingston could see nearly 13 inches. There will be enough cold air associated with this system to create a "snow threat should the track and timing align", NWS said.

Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky are forecast to take the bring of the storm's wrath, DeWald said. Going throughout the rest of the afternoon and into the evening, we don't look to warm up much.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.

Saturday night: Dry, but any wet surface will turn to ice with temperatures dropping into the 20s.

Thursday: Partly to mostly cloudy with light snow possible, mainly during the afternoon.

Temperatures dropped to 17 degrees at KCI Wednesday morning, breaking the record of 20 degrees for April 4 set in 1920. That's the biggest April snowstorm in the city since 1982, and the 7th-biggest April snowstorm of all-time, the National Weather Service said. An inch or two of snow is possible from Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning, but no major impacts are expected. The wind ahead of the front will be from the southwest then shift to the west behind the boundary. That wind will be northwesterly, around 15-25 miles per hour, possibly gusting to 30 MPH or greater at times. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
