The San Bruno department tweeted around 1:30 p.m. that officers were responding to an "active shooter".

NBC News reports the calls were reporting an "Active shooter" and area hospitals have been told to expect multiple patients as a result of the incident.

Police say the shooter is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Twitter, YouTube employees reported hearing multiple gun shots inside the campus.

Lisa Kim, a spokeswoman for Stanford Health Care, said the hospital was receiving between four to five patients from the shooting incident at the YouTube offices.

A source told ABC7 News' Vic Lee there was one, female shooter and that officials are clearing rooms at the campus.

Three people were injured, according to Brent Andrew, a spokesperson at San Francisco General Hospital. Employees evacuated the building and police are warning people to avoid the area.

Local television images showed YouTube employees walking out of the building with their hands raised.

San Bruno City Manager Connie Jackson told NBC Bay Area that there is no immediate danger to the public. Heard shots and saw people running while at my desk.

The shooter earlier stormed the offices of YouTube prompting terrified workers to run for their lives.

Google, the parent company of YouTube, said on Twitter it is coordinating with authorities and will post additional information as it becomes available.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who represents the district where Tuesday's shooting occurred, expressed disbelief at the latest development.

The White House said President Donald Trump had been briefed and that his administration was monitoring the ongoing situation in San Bruno. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Explosives' San Francisco field division has been dispatched to the scene.
