White House Among 'potential venues' For Summit

President Donald Trump poses for members of the media with White House Communications Director Hope Hicks on her last day before he boards Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington Thursday

Despite chilly temperatures in the nation's capital, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn early on Monday - the 140th event of its kind.

Mr. Ushakov said on Monday that the two sides have not had any "concrete discussions" since then. She says the administration has no further comment on the matter.

Sanders statement came amidst reports from Moscow quoting a top Kremlin aide that Trump proposed a White House summit when he called Putin last month, prior to the mass expulsion of Russian diplomats from the US.

The Trump family was at the White House too.

During their March 20 phone conversation, Trump, over the objections of aides, congratulated Putin on his re-election, despite claims of rigged balloting.

During the call, Trump didn't raise Russia's meddling in US elections or its suspected involvement in the poisoning of the former spy and his daughter in Britain.

Rolling out a welcome for Mr Putin in the White House, rather than at a neutral location, could anger Mr Trump's domestic critics, who accuse Russian Federation of hostile acts against Western countries, including the US.

The talks were in preparation for Trump's meeting with Putin which took place at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg in July 2017.

Trump and Putin also spoke past year on the sidelines of global summits in Germany and Vietnam.

Putin last visited the White House in November 2001 when he met former President George W. Bush.

Just as Mr. Trump has shown a curious reluctance to criticize Mr. Putin, even when the two countries are ejecting each other's diplomats, the Kremlin and the Russian news outlets it controls have often avoided criticizing Mr. Trump directly.

Russian Federation denies involvement and has retaliated against the diplomatic sanctions in kind.

The White House is opening the gates for its biggest social event of the year, the annual Easter Egg Roll.
