SpaceX is well known for landing and reusing rocket boosters to bring down the price of its rockets, but this was one of the rare occasions Musk has acknowledged his rocket startup's attempts to recover the fairing after launch, the CNNMoney reportsaid.
The Falcon 9 rocket being used for the launch was previously used in October for an Iridium satellite mission, and it was successfully recovered for re-use.
"Due to some restrictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric, NOAA for short, SpaceX will be intentionally ending live video coverage from the second stage just prior to engine shutdown", Hammersely said. The launch was rescheduled for Saturday at first but after the issue was resolved the mission was moved back to Friday.
SpaceX will not, however, attempt to land the booster after Friday's launch. Final launches are expected to be completed this year.
That rocket is scheduled to lift off Monday afternoon from Cape Canaveral, Florida. 40 of those satellites were already launched in 2017.
The Iridium-NEXT satellites were launched for McLean, Virginia-based satellite operator Iridium Communications. In fact, SpaceX has sped up its process so much that officials at Iridium are forced to get the components of the satellites delivered on time so that they don't miss the launch window.
Multiple companies are rushing to be the first to deploy satellite constellations to provide broadband data connections, taking advantage of advances in miniature electronics and batteries, as well as cheaper launch costs, to fill the globe's apparently endless demand for more connectivity.
SpaceX has not publicly confirmed that it will attempt to land a fairing half on Mr. Steven's net again, but tracking site MarineTraffic shows the ship left the Port of Los Angeles on Thursday. The GPS-guided parafoils meant to slow it down grew tangled as it descended back toward earth, causing the cone to crash into the water at a high rate of speed, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet. Doing helo drop tests in next few weeks to solve'.
