Israel Deploys 100 Sharpshooters On Gaza Border For Palestinian Protests: Israeli Army Chief

President Donald Trump reaches to touch a copy of the $1.3 trillion spending bill as he speaks in the Diplomatic Room of the White House in Washington Friday

MK Haim Yellin, a former head of the Eshkol Regional Council and member of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said that "the question of how the terrorists managed to penetrate 12 miles into Israel from the Gaza Strip should be immediately checked by all the elements in the defense establishment".

Hamas is planning a mass protest on the Israel-Gaza border on Friday and urging Gaza residents to gather near the fence and march toward Israeli positions with the intent of crossing into the Jewish state.

On Saturday, four Palestinians illegally entered Israel and set fire to military construction equipment before fleeing back to Gaza when troops arrived.

Israel's Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said the latest attempt by the Palestinian Authority to raise its status within the global community and delegitimize Israel is a campaign to "establish facts on the ground by making detours and unilateral moves".

Abu Ubaida, spokesman of the Hamas armed wing, said no rockets were fired into Israel.

On Sunday night, Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system was mistakenly activated along the border with the Gaza Strip.

Brigadier General Ronen Menlis from the IDF spokesperson's Unit said: "No barrage of missiles was sacked at Israel from Gaza".

Israel fired Iron Dome missiles after mistakenly thinking militants had launched rockets in the Gaza Strip.

The launch set off a wave of missile warning sirens in the communities of Hof Ashkelon and Shaar HaNegev, and tanks fired at two Hamas positions in northern Gaza.

"If they want to behave peacefully inside the Gaza Strip, this is their own business", Gallant said.
