Winter storm: "Four'easter" to hit East Coast

Winter Storm Toby Looks Crazy From Space

Many New York-Area Services Shut as Latest Nor'easter Hits

The warning, which means severe winter weather will make travel "very hazardous or impossible", has been issued for New York City, Long Island, northeast New Jersey and all of CT, according to the National Weather Service.

The bad news? "There is another system that we're watching for Saturday night which could bring another bit of wintry weather for the season", the meteorologist said. The storm dumped more than a foot of snow in some places and knocked out power to tens of thousands of customers.

According to The Weather Channel, an area of low pressure has developed in the plains and is expected to move toward the southern Appalachia region by Saturday night.

The early prediction for the storm called for about 3-6 inches of snow, but that increased by Monday evening to up to a foot in some parts of the southeastern MA area.

A late season snowstorm will impact parts of eastern Iowa and northwestern IL tonight into Saturday.

Residents should plan on hard travel conditions and significant reductions in visibility.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather warning for the region until 8 p.m. Wednesday as the storm wound down after dumping 4 inches on the District and up to 7 inches in Montgomery County, Maryland, and Loudon County, Virginia.

Yuhas said he expects about an inch of snow to accumulate in the Twin Cities. The snow is expected to be wet and heavy. Meanwhile, North Dakota is expected to see some 5 to 8 inches of snow, with localized amounts up to 10 inches.

Even the staid and steady National Weather Service was puzzled by the fizzling storm.

The snowy conditions come on the heels of relatively mild temperatures in the Midwest, The Weather Channel reported. Sunday sank to 16 degrees. The snow will continue through much of Saturday with 3 to 6 inches possible across Central Indiana and lesser amounts northeast and southwest across the state.

Earlier this month, thousands of homes remained without power in NY and New Jersey for days after a powerful nor'easter hit the region. Among the results of that storm was a reunion held every few years at the Becker farm and sawmill north of Garrison, where several travelers spent a couple of days while waiting for snow plows to clear the roads. Additional towns will be added as they become available.
