United Gives Passenger Staggering $10000 Voucher To Give Up Seat

A United Airlines passenger was paid $10,000 in travel credit to give up her seat on an overbooked flight at Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C on Thursday.

"United is offering $1K in travel credit for an oversold flight".

Then this: "I AM THE LOWEST FARE PASSENGER", Preiss tweeted. "They are kicking me off this flight", she posted.

While Preiss may have preferred cash, here are five trips she can now take - at no cost. A computer system glitch caused thousands of United Airlines flights throughout major airports to be grounded Wednesday morning.

United upped the limit for voucher like the one Preiss was given after an infamous incident in which a man was dragged, screaming, off a flight.

Unlike the story that made headlines a year ago when a doctor was dragged from a flight after already taking his seat, Preise was removed from the boarding line before she made it onto the plane.

Sadly, not likely. While a United Airlines representative told Newsweek that the voucher is per the company's policy, it is the highest voucher available and is only issued in extreme circumstances. United couldn't board her because a seat broke on the plane, according to Preiss, and no one volunteered to give up a seat. She said she was thinking about going to Hawaii with her voucher. "In that case, a good negotiation strategy is to start off by insisting on cash compensation, because the airline would rather offer you a larger amount in travel vouchers than in cash".

But alas, she didn't get access for a day to the airline lounge. At first the agent told her she could get a voucher worth $3,000 or $4,000. "I am going to go INSANE at Pizza Hut".
