Two former Blue Valley Northwest Students helped lead Loyola Chicago to the Elite 8 on Thursday night
Clinging to a 66-65 lead, Loyola worked the shot clock down to one second before Clayton Custer penetrated to draw the defense and kicked it out to Townes on the right wing.
"I'll remember it for the rest of my life", said Townes, who had team highs of 18 points and five assists. "They covered so much ground, so I was blessed we made enough plays at the end, we got as couple of stops at the end", said Moser, who after being informed that his team made their first 13 shots to start the second half was quite surprised. He is such a good basketball player and such a good person, I am just so happy he dominated the game tonight and he led us. "This is unbelievable. Feels like a dream".
The win leaves the No. 11th-seeded Ramblers one victory from a Final Four appearance in San Antonio.
Townes charged down the court, pumping his fist, as Nevada called a timeout following the crucial 3-pointer.
The Wildcats punched their ticket to the Elite Eight for the first time in eight years with Thursday's 61-58 win over No.5 Kentucky as 5-point underdogs, establishing their first three-game SU win streak in over a month.
Down the stretch, Loyola executed flawlessly, while Nevada was carried by the Martin twins making ridiculous shots. The Ramblers closed the half with a 20-4 run, holding the Wolf Pack scoreless for the final 7:55 before the break.
Marques Townes had scored only a combined 15 points in Loyola's first two NCAA Tournament games, but that didn't concern Ramblers coach Porter Moser. Nevada trailed at the half in its sixth consecutive game.
Townes said he was fine after banging knees with Nevada's Jordan Caroline at the end of the game.
Loyola needed to be nearly flawless to hold off Nevada.
Everything didn't for Loyola in the opening minutes of the first half. Nevada knotted the score at 59 on Cody Martin's drive through the middle of the Ramblers' defense with 4:06 remaining. But without leading-scorer Dean Wade at full strength - he missed the first two games and was limited to eight minutes against Kentucky - Kansas State has struggled to generate offense and averaged just over 63 points per game.
Loyola Chicago wasn't as effective in turning points into turnovers - 8 points from turnovers, compared to Nevada's 12.
Several of those history makers from 1963 had a front row seat to the current team's chronicling one of the best stories in sports as Jerry Harkness and three of his teammates cheered the upset.

MI reached the Elite Eight by knocking off Montana, Houston, and Texas A&M.
The 98-year old nun has become a symbol for the team's underdog March Madness run and hopes to help them get to the Elite Eight. Loyola regularly started three or more black players, and Mississippi State played the game despite orders from Mississippi's segregationist governor to boycott it.
Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 24 points with seven assists.
The Wolverines were good in the first half and even better in the second.
The rout was on by halftime with MI leading 52-28.
Texas A&M was led by Tyler Davis with 24 points.
And Mariah Musselman, the precocious daughter of the Wolf Pack's exuberant coach, has been Nevada's biggest cheerleader during its run to the Sweet 16.
