Saudi Prince Mohammed Tells Trump He Sees 'Stable' Oil Market

Prince Mohammed who is 32 years old was making his first visit to the White House

Public Smiles Private Problems As Saudi Prince Visits White House

During three weeks in the US, the 32-year-old crown prince will also meet with businessmen in NY, tech mavens in San Francisco and entertainment bigwigs in Los Angeles.

At the same time, the kingdom has seen a cautious new climate of social freedoms with the rise of the 32-year-old crown prince after decades of elderly rulers.

Commenting over the meeting, Marwan Bishara, a senior political commentator said, "On the political level, the American president is trying to sell the crown prince to the American public, when Saudi Arabia's image is really bad".

Trump talked up last year's $200 billion arms sales scheme, and promised to push through more of the sales in the coming months, promising the Saudis the "finest military equipment anywhere".

After his visit to Washington, Mohammed will embark on a nationwide tour, visiting New York, Boston, oil hub Houston, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley.

As they talked, USA senators debated a resolution seeking an end to United States support for Saudi Arabia's campaign in Yemen's civil war, in which about 10,000 people have been killed. Some members of Congress have been critical of the Saudi campaign, particularly the humanitarian situation and civilian casualties.

Just hours after the prince left the White House, the US Senate rejected a bipartisan bid created to withdraw US intelligence and reconnaissance support for the war.

Another point of friction is the war in Yemen, where Saudi Arabia leads a coalition fighting the Huthi rebels, who are allegedly backed by Iran.

The crown prince oversaw the invasion of Yemen as defense minister in 2015.

Bin Salman was very happy that the Tuesday's meeting exceeded his expectations, which doubled the amount of investments between Saudi Arabia and the US. It is USA who will gain!

He further said, "And, as you know, Mr. President, from day one you've reached this office, we've planned to tackle $200bn for opportunities in the next four years, but it end up with $400bn for opportunities".

"I thought your father made a very wise decision".

"You were the crown prince, and now you are beyond the crown prince", he said, before adding that he missed Mohammed's father, King Salman, and hoped to see him soon.

For all his taboo-busting changes at home and risky moves in the Middle East, Prince Mohammed is still a mystery to the United States and much of the West.

Burton stated that Saudi Arabia signed the joint strategic vision with US President in May, and it included several agreements worth billions of dollars. Prince Mohammed personally favored NY, although Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih was wary of litigation risks connected with a possible NY listing.

Trump was non-committal on the future of the Iranian nuclear deal.

"But Iran has not been treating that part of the world or the world itself appropriately". Additional deals might still come to fruition.

Mohammed was expected to meet with Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, who are in charge of the administration's effort to forge an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal, as well as CIA Director and secretary of state-designate Mike Pompeo, and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
