Alabama's Unemployment Rate Drops to a record low says Governor Kay Ivey

Florida's annual job growth rate of 1.9 percent continues to exceed the national rate of 1.7 percent. Hendry County has finally lost its title, held for years (after Flagler held it) as the county with the most unemployment: it's been replaced by Citrus, at 6 percent, followed by Sumter at 5.9 percent. The state's jobless rate was 3.4 percent a year ago. During all of 2017, weekly earnings averaged a 3.6 percent increase over the prior year, compared to a 1.9 percent increase in 2016. This drop is faster than the national decline of 5.2 percentage points.

In January, the three industry sectors with the largest gains in employment were: Leisure and Hospitality (4,000); Education and Health Services (1,700); and Financial Activities (1,300).

The state's nonfarm employment increased by 9,200 overall with job gains led by durable goods manufacturing, up 2,100 and wholesale trade, up 3,200.

There was a loss of 1,100 in trade, transportation and utilities jobs and a loss of 1,000 in the "other services" category.

"We're healing economically, but it's not revealed in the labor force numbers", Parker said. Out of a labor force of 10,152,000, there were 397,000 Floridians without jobs for the first month of 2018.

"This new peak employment milestone is a testament to the work that has been done by the Rauner administration to encourage competition, create jobs and reduce burdensome bureaucracy", Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Director Sean McCarthy said. In December, 50,413 people were unemployed. And employers across the state who are looking to grow their businesses say they can not find enough qualified workers to fill open jobs.

The federal household survey, done with a smaller sample than the survey of employers, shows an increase in the number of employed Californians over the month and the year.
