Airbnb reveals new hotel-like service called Airbnb Plus
Airbnb will be 10 years old in August, and during its brief life the San Francisco accommodation platform has grown to be valued at $30bn.
Chesky spoke to Reuters during an event at Airbnb headquarters in San Francisco, where the company announced new luxury services to attract more high-end travelers and unveiled a large-scale redesign of the company's 4.5 million property listings to make it easier for travelers to find what they want.
"Airbnb Plus is intended for guests looking for attractive homes, exceptional hosts and added peace of mind", the company wrote.
Airbnb hosts have also earned more than US$41B, and more than 300 million checkins have been performed by guests - with 3 guests checking into an Airbnb listing somewhere in the world every second!
"Ten years ago we never dreamed of what Airbnb could become", he said in a statement.
It will also give guidance on the best properties for certain types of travelers, such as whether a house is most appropriate for families, newlyweds or colleagues on a work retreat, according to an Airbnb spokesman. Unlike many online publications, we don't have a paywall or run banner advertising, because we want to keep our journalism open, without influence or the need to chase traffic.
Airbnb is also launching a new guest membership programme offering benefits across the entire trip.
Airbnb has announced a major new addition to its online hospitality and tourism platform: a premium service created to help the company better compete with hotels, simply called 'Airbnb Plus'. If you were to go by Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky's definition, it could mean a space that allows you to live like a local. At the same time, it'll have new property listing categories for more unusual locations, including "Boutique" and "Unique Space". Four more categories rolling out later this year, namely, Collections for Social stays, Weddings, Honeymoons, Group getaways and Dinner parties. Airbnb charges fees of up to 15 percent for guests and about 3 percent for hosts on the price of each rental. Airbnb Plus homes have been inspected and verified in person against a 100+ point checklist covering cleanliness, comfort and design.
Those with discerning taste will even be able to refine their search even further by searching for specific feature within the Unique collection. A New York Times story noted that the service launches with 2,000 homes in 13 cities, including Toronto, Shanghai, Los Angeles, and Milan, and hopes to expand to 75,000 homes in 50 cities by the end of the year. When the Super Guest program gets off the ground later this year, it will offer 10,000 guests access to special benefits such as airport pickup and exclusive activities.
