GETTYInstagram will now warn users when you screenshot their post
Instagram has found its latest feature to take from Snapchat - a system that notifies users when screenshots are taken of their stories. There is hope: if people stop watching stories because they can't creep on others, Instagram could cancel the new notifications before they even roll it out to everyone.
If you secretly take screenshots of people's Instagram stories, you may soon think twice.
Instagram confirmed with Business Insider that it's only testing the feature with a small number of users. To be clear, creators won't get a specific notification when someone takes a screenshot of their story, it will only show up in their list of story viewers.
The social network is now testing a feature that sends an alert to users when someone takes a screenshot of their stories. People screenshotted at will because it wasn't traceable.
The Stories feature tells you who has watched your story when you tap on the "seen by" area in the bottom left corner. The message is clear: users want to Insta-stalk their friends, family, and followers in peace. But while you can probably convince yourself this is some kind of noble act, like Max Brod believing that Franz Kafka's work should be shared with the world, it's usually on the creepier end of the spectrum.
Another workaround that'll avoid the feature involves using an internet browser. Instagram will be adding this feature to the "ephermal part" of its platform, Stories.
Instagram is slowly rolling-out the new functionality to users worldwide.
Earlier, the alerts for screenshots were provided when someone would take a screenshot of a private direct message.
They will then decide if they will apply the feature to all users. It will let users share public feed posts from other users to their Story. Some users say it's the main reason they switched from Snapchat to Instagram and have threatened to leave Instagram if it goes forward with its screenshot notifications.
