On Friday, the Election Commission (EC) asked the President to disqualify the 20 MLAs for holding offices of profit, setting the stage for their ouster from the assembly.

Egged on by Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, the central leadership has so far kept the AAP out of any formal Opposition grouping and resisted attempts by TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Yadav to bring Kejriwal on a joint Opposition platform.

AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said: "Till now, there is no confirmation on the EC's recommendation".

In a major development, the Delhi High Court on Friday took note of the petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs which challenged the recommendations by the Election Commission for disqualifying 20 of its lawmakers for holding office of profit.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is facing a major political setback after the Election Commission reportedly recommended the disqualification 20 of its legislators for holding offices of profit.

Sisodia also alleged that his MLAs were not given a chance to present their case.

While one Congress legislator is the parliamentary secretary to chief minister V Narayanasamy, two DMK members and five belonging to the Congress had been appointed chairmen of statutory bodies here. He had created 21 parliamentary secretary posts to please his restive MLAs, which led to filing of complaints before the EC.

Underlining the AAP's connect with people, Rai said, "We are not afraid of elections". It was then that public prosecutor Prashant Pratel Umrao appealed to the president of India that this was an "unconstitutional" move that should be examined by the EC thoroughly, after recommendation from the president.

"There were 11 hearings since July 2016 to March 2017 and each hearing lasted for 2-3 hours", Patel said.Patel had to argue against senior lawyers such as Indira Jaisingh, who represented the Delhi government, and many other top legal eagles representing the BJP and the Congress.

The disqualification will not put into jeopardy Kejriwal's government because of its huge majority in the Delhi assembly. He said the BJP stands prepared for elections "any moment". "Arvind Kejriwal should take responsibility for moral defeat and resign", he said. "The 20 AAP MLAs were not even given a hearing by the Election Commission".

'Where is Lokpal? The MLAs and Ministers enjoying perks of power and foreign travel-Where is political probity, ' he tweeted.
