Thirteen workers were killed in November 2016 in New Delhi after a makeshift factory was gutted in a fire. Ten women and seven men were killed while a man and woman were injured in a massive blaze at a firecracker storage unit in outer Delhi's Bawana industrial area yesterday evening.

The blaze started in the basement of a three-storey plastic manufacturing facility in the Bawana industrial area on the northern edge of New Delhi, which officials suspect was also used to store fireworks.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday ordered a thorough probe into the Bawana plastic factory fire incident that claimed at least 17 lives and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased.

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manoj Tiwari and Leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta and North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Preety Agarwal also reached the spot. "But explosions took place inside the building, causing casualties", Garg said. My thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives. The Delhi government has reportedly ordered an investigation into the blaze. "The highrise buildings are our main concern as such a fire can affect neighbouring buildings, which has happened in this case as well", said Delhi Fire Services chief G C Mishra. "May those who are injured recover quickly". Fire erupted on second floor of the godown. Fire officials say that they were trapped, due to the lack of an exit route.
