WhatsApp Introduces new Dedicated App for Businesses to Connect With Their Customers

WhatsApp launches standalone Android app for businesses

WhatsApp's Business app has finally gotten off the ground in multiple countries including the US, Italy, Indonesia, Mexico, and the UK. However, users, in general, do not need to download any other app. It has various additions over the standard chat app such as business profiles and new messaging tools. On the other hand, brands will have an easier time communicating with customers, but also with employees. Now, the Facebook-owned company looks to better expand its reach to businesses.

Ultimately, the default won't change, and functionality of the service as a whole won't either. Strangely enough, India has been left off the initial list even though the company claims 80% of small businesses in India and Brazil say that the application helps them communicate with customers and grow their business.

It's completely separate to the standard version of WhatsApp, but it works in much the same manner - only its goal is connecting businesses and customers, rather than friends and family.

Back in September 2017, when the company first announced the app, it started verifying business accounts as part of its WhatsApp Business pilot program. Customers will then see these accounts as "Business accounts".

After creating a "Business account", companies can access a host of additional features meant for them. Business accounts can also configure default, greeting messages for the sake of introductions as well as away messages to let customers know that they are busy. Once a profile has been set up, businesses will be able to configure smart messaging tools that assist them in responding to customers. In its essence, this application will provide the benefits of a Facebook business page on a messaging platform. Statistics will offer businesses a chance to quickly review simple metrics. As such, it contains the usual functions you may expect from a business app. Confirmed Accounts will also be available once WhatsApp confirms the account phone number matches the business phone number.
