Hawaiian Airlines flight #446 then landed in Honolulu, Hawaii at 10:16 a.m. on December 31, 2017.

It's incidents like these that make us believe that time travel is real, in a way. The flight, HA446, left Auckland, New Zealand at 12:05 am, January 1st, 2018, and will land in Honolulu, Hawaii at 9:45 am on December 31st, 2017.

A flight on Monday managed to take passengers "back in time", taking off in 2018 and landing in 2017 - all because of a mere 10-minute delay in takeoff. Interestingly, it arrived in Honolulu at 10:16 am on December 31.

Passengers aboard the Hawaiian Airlines plane had 14 hours to prepare for new year celebration when they touched down in Honolulu, Hawaii.

But it is not as uncommon as some might believe with planes crossing the International Date Line every day.

In between New Zealand and Hawaii is the global date line, which explains the hefty time difference between the two locales. As a result, Hawaii is almost a day behind New Zealand, at the time of the flight.

The flight took off just after midnight from Auckland on January 1 before landing in Hawaii in the morning of December 31. But fortunately for a flight delay (words we never thought we'd type), the passengers of Hawaiian Airlines Flight 446 got one incredible NYE story to tell at work come Tuesday.
