Civilization 6 comes to iPad, full game to cost $60

Civilization VI for iPad is here but you won’t buy

For its iPad release, Civilization 6 has been "rebuilt with touch controls", said Aspyr Media, the publisher of the iOS version, in a news release. The game itself will only run on iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, and the iPad Pros at this time. Also note: Civilization VI is free to download, and the first 60 turns are free, if you want to try before you buy.

Luckily, Civilization VI is on sale for two weeks at $29.99 on the App Store, afterwards it will bump back up to $59.99.


While many of us expect publishers and developers to drop price a bit in porting games over to mobile devices, Aspyr isn't doing that for this port of Civilization VI.

Sid Meier's Civilization VI helps break this trend by releasing on the App Store for iPad. While this may seem odd for an iPad game, since it is the exact same thing which appeared on PC, it is kind of okay. Speaking of which, this game requires one's iPad have iOS 11 installed as well.


The good news is that the game is entirely free to install.

Given the fact that this whole game series appeared first on mobile devices, Aspyr, to be precise (the same who introduced Firaxis on Apple devices), it's astonishing that they chose to let it hit the market on the Apple store, let alone on the very new model of iPads. Your civ grows and becomes more powerful by developing new technologies like agriculture, masonry, sailing, and (eventually) electricity. It does come across as a surprise that the price of the game for iPad is the same as what is available for PC.


Sid Meier's Civilization VI has been out for just over a year, delighting Civilization V fans by changing things up for the series with tweaks to settlements and victory conditions. The "additional content" section is present for DLC, and LAN multiplayer is supported-but not cross-platform. Regarding add-on content, Aspyr said, "We hope to support DLC and expansions in the future but can not confirm timing or availability at this time".
