Predicting the country's Christmas Day weather begins 10 days before

For now, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look cloudy, showery, and mild. This upcoming weekend, temperatures will be dangerously cold. The record high is 80 and the record low is 0.

Winds will be light to moderate, fresh in parts of the west and southwest, however, there will be some sunny spells in places. Lows will be in the mid to upper 40s and highs will be in the mid to upper 50s both Thursday and Friday.

The showers will taper off Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.

The next storm on the horizon will be Saturday but it looks like rain and not snow with a southern storm tracking west of CT, putting us on the warm side with highs in the 50s.

Tonight: Overnight, we'll have mostly clear skies.

It will be cool at first, with some grass frost possible in eastern and northeastern areas, but temperatures will rise steadily overnight with values of 9 to 12 Celsius by dawn.

From NBC5 meteorologist Brian James - Clouds will be with us as a partly to mostly cloudy sky continues across the area tonight. Some sunshine and winds gusting over 20 miles per hour will highlight a mild afternoon.

There is a chance of a spell of rain on Thursday across the southern half of the country, but amounts still look likely to be small and it will become mainly dry again later. Saturday will be the milder of the two as highs likely climb back above 50 degrees despite the rain, thanks to a warm southerly breeze on the milder side of an approaching cold front.

Christmas Day will basically be cold. Right behind the front on Christmas Day, there is a slight chance for a few rain and snow showers. As temps fall into the 30s as we head into Christmas morning I can't rule out some light mixed precipitation or even light snow between Midnight and 3am for areas east of Chattanooga.

Of course we will fine-tune as it gets closer!
