Former Brazil, AC Milan and Real Madrid star Kaka announces retirement

Former AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder Kaka, a 2002 World Cup victor with Brazil, has retired. He also won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, who he was capped for 92 times from 2002 to 2016, and the Ballon d'Or as best player in the world in 2007.

Confirming the news in a tweet posted on Sunday, the midfielder described his career as "much more than I could ever imagine" adding that he is "ready for the next journey" as well as thanking God for his experiences.

He's the last Ballon d'Or victor neither named Messi nor Ronaldo, and he's calling it a career.

"I would like to take part in a club in a role more like... a manager, a sporting director - someone between the field and the club". Kaka played for Brazil, AC Milan and Real Madrid during his career.

"I needed time to think and take a very calm decision, very calm and very aware of what I will want for my professional life", Kaka said.

He was arguably at his prime during the six years he spent with the Italian giants between 2003 and 2009, during which time he also won the Serie A title in 2004 and the Club World Cup in 2007.

Kaka will however not leave the world of football as a whole stating that: "Now, I will prepare to continue in the world of football, but in another role". The fact that I've had successes as a professional footballer doesn't mean that I will be a good director or not.

In conclusion Kaka confirmed that he has been in talks with former club Milan stating that: "It's true that recently Milan made me an offer, we will see".
