Turkey's Erdogan slams Trump for Jerusalem move

Bahrain participates in OIC ministerial meeting

Turkey is set to host an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in a bid to mobilize the Muslim world in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

The Summit will be preceded by the Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting, which will be attended by Foreign Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

The extraordinary summit which is being held on Wednesday has been called by the President of Turkey in his capacity as the Chair of OIC. Needless to say the OIC is meeting at the most hard times and it needs to chalk out a firm action while rising above mere passage of condemnation resolutions. Saudi Arabia will be represented by its Islamic affairs minister.

Later, the OIC delegation heads including Najib are scheduled to make statements followed by the adoption of the Draft Final Communique of the extraordinary Islamic Summit conference on the US administration's recognition of the occupied City of Al-Quds Ash-Sharif as the so-called capital of Israel, the Occupying Power and decision to transfer the US Embassy to Al-Quds. Erdogan has already warned of cutting ties with Israel. Several countries had still not said who they would send to Istanbul. "Some Arab countries have shown very weak responses", Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said. "It seems some countries are very timid of the United States". "It seems some countries are very timid of the United States". "If we don't defend Jerusalem, one of the three most sacred places of Islam, what will we defend?"

Haniyeh stressed, during the call, that the U.S. decision is an "aggression on the Palestinian people and the Islamic nation".

The hard-line Turkish paper Yeni Safak, known for its strong support of Erdogan and his Justice and Development (AK) Party, wrote that the conference is expected to go beyond messages of condemnation and take action to reverse the U.S. decision. It insists that Jerusalem is the "eternal and indivisible" capital of Israel. Indeed Erdogan has come in the fore as a champion of the Palestinian cause and spearheaded the Muslim reaction to the USA decision by convening the OIC meeting in Istanbul to formulate a joint plan of action.
