North Korea blames US for blackmailing, rising tension in UN talks

UN Political Chief Meets N. Korean Foreign Minister on 4-day Trip

"The tense situation of the peninsula is entirely ascribable to the USA hostile policy and nuclear threat and blackmail against North Korea".

According to North Korea's state-run media, Feltman discussed United Nations assistance and operations in North Korea along with "other matters of mutual concern" during a meeting with the vice foreign minister on Wednesday.

Ri held a conversation with Feltman, who also paid a courtesy visit to the Supreme People's Assembly (North Korea's Parliament).

Feltman arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday for a four-day visit.

North Korea hates such displays of American military might at close range and typically uses strong language to condemn them as invasion rehearsals.

On Wednesday, he met with North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Pak Myong-guk and Russian Ambassador to Pyongyang Alexander Matsegora.

The United States and South Korea responded with a show of force conducting their largest ever joint air exercise which was a five-day showcase of aircraft and jet fighter capabilities.

The trip, made in response to an invitation from Pyongyang, comes almost a week after the North test-fired a new intercontinental ballistic missile it says is capable of reaching the USA mainland.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert has said Feltman is not visiting Pyongyang on behalf of Washington.

While seeking a diplomatic solution to the nuclear issue, the Trump administration continues to call for more pressure on North Korea.

B-1Bs flyovers have become an increasingly familiar show of force to North Korea, which after three intercontinental ballistic missile tests has clearly moved closer toward building a nuclear arsenal that could viably target the USA mainland.

In comments attributed to an unnamed Foreign Ministry spokesman, North Korea also claimed high-ranked US officials, including CIA Director Mike Pompeo, have further confirmed American intent for war with a series of "bellicose remarks".
