Plot to kill UK PM Theresa May foiled Sky News

According to Sky News citing sources A plot to assassinate UK Prime Minister Theresa May has been foiled.

Rahman, 20, from north London, is accused of planning to bomb Downing Street's security gates and then attack the Prime Minister in the ensuing chaos. However, it does not appear they were able to obtain or build any explosives.

After reviewing the security services' actions in relation to four terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom this year, he concluded, "It is conceivable that the Manchester attack in particular might have been averted had the cards fallen differently".

The police said there were now 500 counter-terrorism investigations involving 3,000 people and more than 20,000 other people have been investigated in the past.

Rahman appeared with 21-year-old Mohammed Imran, from Birmingham, who was also charged with preparing to commit acts of terrorism.

Details of the assassination plot were reportedly given to the Cabinet on Tuesday by head of MI5 Andrew Parker in a briefing in which he revealed that a total of nine Islamist terrorist plots have been thwarted in the United Kingdom over the past year.

Mr Imran allegedly planned to join Isis in Libya.

The details of the latest plot emerged as a report into the terror attacks in Britain between March and June was released, according to The Guardian.

"I understand that the head of MI5, Andrew Parker, briefed Cabinet ministers today, such is the seriousness of what they believed they have uncovered".

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that the men were arrested by its Counter Terrorism Command on November 28.

So far, there have been no comments from 10 Downing Street. John Major, the prime minister at the time, was inside but not hurt. Thirty-six people have died in four terror attacks in Britain this year.
