Mariah believed to be dead; mother's live-in boyfriend arrested

Mother's boyfriend is arrested in connection to disappearance of 3-year-old Mariah Woods and police believe she is dead

"It is believed that Mariah is deceased", the Onslow County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, even as what happened to Mariah Woods after her mother tucked her into bed almost a week ago remains a mystery.

The mother's live-in boyfriend has been arrested in connection with the girl's disappearance, authorities said Saturday morning, and Mariah is likely dead.

Earl Kimrey, 32, believed to be the boyfriend of the child's mother, was apprehended Friday, the Onslow County Sheriff's Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation announced early Saturday.

Records reportedly show that Kimrey broke into a home and stole two dressers around the time Woods disappeared, according to WNCN.

The authorities said Kimrey faces charges of concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny and possession of stolen property. He is being held at the Onslow County Detention Center under a $1,010,000 bond. Authorities haven't said what led investigators to identify Kimrey as a suspect, but other charges could be coming.

Investigators also sorted through 95,000 pounds of trash by hand, searching for items of interest, the sheriff's office said.

Officials said 730 volunteers participated in a search for Mariah on Friday.

An Amber Alert was issued Sunday, when Mariah was last seen around 11 p.m.

Searchers targeted a creek and a landfill in their effort to find a 3-year-old North Carolina girl missing since the start of the week.

They were sent straight to the FBI's base in Quantico, Virginia, for testing on Wednesday afternoon. "Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn't cry, she didn't scream?"

On Thursday, Miller called on civilians to join law enforcement officers in the land and air search for the toddler.

The FBI, which was also at the news conference, said that two areas in Pender County were now part of the focus of the search. ABC News reports that her mother reached out to the public in an emotion-filled plea Monday.

"Allow us to review it to determine if it is of investigative value", FBI agent Stanley Meador said. "She's my baby. She's my everything".
