Grizzlies Fire David Fizdale

Marc Gasol

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are bothered by the news of David Fizdale's firing by the Memphis Grizzlies.

Memphis is mired in an eight-game losing streak and owns a 7-12 mark this season after advancing to the playoffs in 2016-17. Bickerstaff will take over the role of Interim Head Coach of the Grizzlies, with the team now at 7-12 after their loss in Brooklyn on Sunday.

Wojnarowski reported Fizdale's "tepid relationship with All-Star center Marc Gasol reached a low point with Gasol's fourth-quarter benching in a loss to Brooklyn on Sunday night". "I'm sure (the coaching staff) knew that would hurt me the most".

"If I'm not on the floor, I'm not valued", Gasol said.

"After a thorough evaluation, I decided a change in course was necessary to move forward and provide the team and organization its best chance at success this season and beyond", Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement.

The 43-year-old coach was an assistant under Erik Spoelstra during the two stars' time with the Miami Heat, and each expressed their disappointment with Grizzlies management for their decision.

The Grizzlies are the second National Basketball Association team to make an in-season coaching change. Fizdale was sacked on Monday following a run of eight straight losses.

The Grizzlies have lost 11 of their last 13, including the last seven without point guard Mike Conley who has been sidelined with an injury.

This will be the second time as an interim coach for Bickerstaff, who will start Wednesday night in San Antonio against the Spurs.
