Tweeden recalled in her article that Franken, who was headlining the USO tour as a comedian back then, included her in a part of his script where his character goes to her for a kiss.

"I didn't socialize with him, I didn't talk to him for the rest of the tour", Tweeden told reporters.

Sen. Al Franken apologized Thursday after a Los Angeles radio show anchor said that he had forcibly kissed her and later groped her on a 2006 USO tour, and said that he would "gladly cooperate" with an Ethics Committee investigation into his actions.

She is a radio anchor at Los Angeles station KABC (owned by Cumulus Media) and has worked in sports broadcasting.

While riffing on ideas involving Rooney finding an empty bottle of sedatives in his desk, Franken suggested Rooney say he had used the drugs to sedate and rape fellow "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Stahl. The former "Saturday Night Live" star on Tuesday attempted to get ahead of allegations that he sexually assaulted a former Playboy Playmate - joining Senate leaders from both sides of the aisle calling for an investigation. "It isn't amusing. It's completely inappropriate", he said. "Comedy is no excuse for inappropriate conduct, and I believe there should be an ethics investigation", McCaskill wrote on Twitter.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic leader Chuck Schumer agreed the Ethics Committee should investigate. She also accused Franken of kissing her against her will.

"I said "OK" so he would stop badgering me". "I said something like, 'Relax Al, this isn't SNL ... we don't need to rehearse the kiss'". "Regardless of party, harassment and assault are completely unacceptable - in the workplace or anywhere else", McConnell said in a statement.

Donald Trump also faces allegations of sexual assault by at least a dozen women, most of whom came forward in the months leading up to the 2016 election.

For Democrats, the swift requests for an investigation into Franken were necessary to avoid the suggestion of hypocrisy, since majority have condemned Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, who has been accused of making advances to teenagers when he was a local prosecutor in his 30s.
