Both Bush presidents bash 'blowhard' Donald Trump as unfit for the presidency

Former Presidents Bush reveal in new book they didn't vote for Trump

George HW Bush on Trump: He's a 'blowhard'

George Bush Sr and Jr, two former United States presidents, have never liked Donald Trump, and now they have gone on record with their blunt assessment of him, calling him a "blowhard" who doesn't know what it means to be the president of the country.

Updegrove dives into the complexities of the father and son relationship and also reports on their opinions of President Donald Trump.

But Trump, who has made more than 1,300 false or misleading claims in less than a year and nearly constantly insults his many rivals, did win the presidency. "And I'm not too excited about him being a leader", Bush senior told Updegrove in May 2016.

This is the first time we get to see what influenced the two former presidents, how they feel about each other's presidencies, the US's role in the world, the Republican party, as well as their true feelings about Donald Trump.

George W. Bush didn't expect Trump to win the general election, Updegrove told CNN in an interview about the book.

The New York Times spoke with Updegrove about the book and reports that George H.W. and George W. expressed themselves differently with regard to President Trump.

But "this is all different with Donald Trump", said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley.

These statements were reportedly made before the election.

According to the book, neither Bush voted for Trump, with the elder Bush saying he voted for Hillary Clinton. According to the book, George H.W. Bush voted for Hillary Clinton past year (as it was reported he meant to do), while George W. Bush left the presidential slot on the ballot blank. But, she wrote, if voters "were interested in continuing decades of costly mistakes, another establishment politician more concerned with putting politics over people would have won".
