Shreyas Iyer in T20 team vs NZ; Ashwin, Jadeja back for Lanka Tests

BCCI announces teams for T20s against Kiwis Tests against Lanka

The national selectors rewarded Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer and Hyderabad fast bowler Mohammed Siraj for their consistent performances for India "A" by naming them in the India squad for the three-match T20 ODI series against New Zealand next month. Ashish Nehra, who will retire after the first T20 game on November 1, has been picked for only that game scheduled in his home ground of Delhi.

Speaking to CricketNext prior to the first warm-up game against the Kiwis, Shreyas had said: "I feel like I am very much part of the team". Whether he is going to play or not, it is clearly the team management and the selector on call, whoever it is. "We will monitor Kohli's workload after the Tests (vs Sri Lanka)", said chief selector MSK Prasad.

"Shreyas has been performing in T20s and first-class games". We will continue with him and nurture him. The major highlight being the two new faces included in the squad - Shreyas Iyer and Mohammed Siraj.

SQUAD: Virat Kohli (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Mohammed Siraj. The Test squad has three specialist spinners in R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav.

The two sides are now playing three-match ODI series, with the visiting side leading the series by 1-0 following a seven-wicket win in Mumbai on Sunday. One man stood up to the occasion and scored with flair and pace to see the Lions off. Delhi were 6 wickets down at 12 and Iyer had only tailenders left for some inspiration, he gathered his best and dashed out a brilliant 96 of 57 deliveries and took his team over the mark with 2 wickets to spare.

"We can't say that [if he will surely play in the Delhi T20I]".

Despite speculation, skipper Virat Kohli has decided against taking rest from the New Zealand leg and the first two Tests against Sri Lanka, starting November 16.

"As far as the Test series is concerned, he is going to play".
