Senior Pakistani journalist Beena Sarwar, who had been lobbying for Zeenat's release, had told The Indian Express a year ago, "She seems to see herself as a human rights crusader and social activist, inspired by rights activists like Asma Jahangir".

Reacting to the news of Ms. Shahzadi's rescue close to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Ms. Ansari said she felt like showering all her love on the journalist.

Kaneez Bibi said Saturday that her daughter Zeenat Shahzadi arrived when she was not there and she does not know who dropped her off at the home in the eastern city of Lahore.

It was due to her efforts that the security agencies admitted to having Hamid in their custody.

"She used to tell me that a Pakistani should play a pivotal role in helping find my son, which she did", Ansari says. We also asked her not to put her life at risk but she said she wanted to help Ansari out of humanity.

Shahzadi's brother Saddam Hussain was miserable after her kidnapping due to which he committed suicide in March a year ago bringing her case back to headlines. Fauzia was happy to hear the news of Zeenat being rescued, she said,"I was asked earlier that between Zeenat and my son whom I would want to be released first and I had said Zeenat".

She adds that in spite of staying in Lahore, Zeenat would travel for every hearing.

Hamid Ansari from Mumbai has been held captive in a Pakistani jail since the past five years.

Hamid Ansari, the Indian citizen was arrested in Pakistan in 2012 for illegally entering the country.

Ansari, who recalls that the last time she spoke to Zeenat was on August 12, 2015, started an online campaign seeking her release. After taking this assignment he said he would continue as the chief of the missing persons' commission.

The distraught parents of Hamid Ansari who are fighting for their son's freedom.

"It quoted the Asian Human Rights Commission as saying that "[Pakistan's] higher judiciary, including the Supreme Court, has on many occasions found personnel from the Pakistan army and paramilitary to be involved in abductions, enforced detentions and later disappearances".

He was later sentenced to three years' imprisonment by a military court on charges of illegally entering Pakistan and "spying".

My sister has not committed any crime in helping an Indian national.
