Munich police have said that at least four people have been lightly injured during stabbing

About three hours after the stabbings, police arrested a man matching that description who had initially tried to evade officers.

A knifeman who fled the scene after attacking eight people in Munich suffered from suspected "psychological problems", police have confirmed.

Munich police identified the suspect, who was arrested after the incident, as a 33-year-old German citizen who was known to authorities because of past criminal acts.

Da Gloria Martins says the assailant attacked six people at different locations in the area but only four of them were wounded.

Police chief Hubertus Andrae said that investigators had ruled out terrorism or religion as a motive for the attack.

Shortly after Saturday noon, the police said on Twitter that they had caught the suspect. They said he was heavy, unshaven with short blond hair and had a black bicycle and a backpack.

"We have arrested a suspected person".

Several people have been lightly injured after reports of multiple stabbings in the Rosenheimer Platz station in central Munich.

The police have canceled an earlier warning for residents in the area to stay home due to the threat.
