Get lost mom and dad! Amazon lets teens shop on their own

Amazon now lets teens shop with their own account, but with parental approval

Amazon now lets teenagers shop via separate logins attached to their parents' accounts

Upon receiving such a message (via email and/or text messaging), parents can reply with "Y" or "N" to approve or deny the purchase.

A Household allows you to connect and share Amazon benefits with the whole family.

The online retail giant said Wednesday that teens can now shop at Amazon on their own, if their parents let them. The For Teens login is only made possible if the parent agrees, and parents ultimately retain the power over their teen's shopping habits, including settings spending limits and having the ability to deny an order.

Pre-approving orders is done alongside establishing a spending limit, meaning that while the teen can order anything they want, they can only do such up to a certain price before the ability is taken away.

To streamline the process further, teens can also add personalized notes to each product they select for approval, allowing them to offer their parents a bit of justification for the products they want or need (such as important school supplies). From there, the teenager is free to create their own username and password and then use that to log into the Amazon App. Once the order is placed, parents can see an itemized invoice and are able to cancel and return items, according to Amazon.com's normal terms.

Their credit card information will be hidden on the teen accounts, as will their purchase and browsing histories. To get started, parents can visit amazon.com/forteens or sign up via a text or email invitation from their teens.

The next step for Amazon would be to make it easier for teens to use this cash, perhaps by configuring a digital allowance parents can dole out to teens' accounts.

Teens will be given access to their parents' Prime benefits at no cost.
