Turkey is honest in voicing opposition to Iran's some policies, particularly in Syria, Iraq, and Gulf region, Cavusoglu said.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for "more decisive action" in response to the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG)'s attempt to split from Iraq, as he joined his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in renewing their opposition to the redrawing of the Iraqi borders.

"We held talks on the common threats [Iran and Turkey], and also on the referendum in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region with an emphasis on the maintenance of Iraq's integrity and rejection of the referendum", Gen. Baqeri told reporters Monday in Tehran.

Turkey will take stronger steps in retaliation for the Iraqi Kurdish referendum last week, having already taken some measures in coordination with the Iraqi central government and Iran, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday. But Kurdish leaders have said they will use it to press for negotiations on eventually forming their own state.

"The Iraqi Kurdish secession vote is an act of betrayal toward the entire region", he went on.

The other cooperation documents were inked by the national broadcasters of the two countries, as well as the National Library of Iran and the Archives of the Turkish Prime Minister's Office.

An official in Iraq's Kurdish region said that Iraqi and Iranian units began exercises at 11 a.m. local time "only 250 meters from the border".

"We regard the secessionist move in Iraq as detrimental to security of the region", Hatami said on Tuesday. At a joint news conference with Rouhani, Turkish President repeated that the plebiscite had no legitimacy and had only been recognized by Israel.

He said the Kurdish referendum and plan to split from Iraq is part of a "foreign sectarian plot".

"The referendum in Kurdistan was against the Iraqi constitution, which does not help the people of Kurdistan, and is not justifiable for Iraq's security", Mohammad Javad Zarif said.

Israel has denied Turkey's previous claims of involvement in the vote, but has welcomed the Kurds' vote for independence.

Mr Rouhani also said that Tehran and Ankara are planning to expand their economic ties.

The ceremony was also attended by officials from Iran and Turkey. "Meetings will be held to discuss the details", he said.
