'Highest Ranking' Russian General Killed in ISIS Attack in Syria

The senior Russian military official went on to say that all destroyed targets were far away from residential areas, the positions of the US-backed militiamen from the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces, and USA troops.

Commenting on the revelation, the Russian defense ministry spokesman said that Russia had not received an answer on whether United States troops were supporting Daesh in Syria.

At least 17 of the victims were killed in two raids on the Jisr al-Shughour district.

The coalition contacted the Russian military "immediately after the impact" via an established communications line used for deconflicting air and ground operations in Syria, Dillon said.

"The Russian Air Force does not strike populated areas in the Syrian Arab Republic", General Igor Konashenkov told RT.

Moscow neither confirmed nor denied the report, noting only that Russian warplanes were carrying out strikes on "terrorist sites" in support of regime operations against the extremists in Deir Ezzor province.

Earlier this month, the Pentagon said Russian Federation bombed a position east of the Euphrates River where it knew SDF fighters and coalition advisers were stationed.

"We reserve the right to respond", she added.

The news comes after the SDF accused Russian Federation of attacking their positions near gas fields in Deir ez-Zor, killing and wounding several militants.

An outspoken Syrian politician who is always highly-active on social media has put forth a question to United States ambassador to the United Nations regarding how Coalition-backed militias were able to make large advances against ISIS in eastern Deir Ezzor province without engaging the terrorist group.

A safe zone agreed by Syrian regime allies Russian Federation and Iran and rebel backer Turkey was implemented in parts of opposition-held Eastern Ghouta in late July.

On September 16, the group said six of its fighters were wounded in air strikes by regime and Russian warplanes in the Al Sinaaiya area around seven kilometres from the eastern bank of the Euphrates.
