Sadiq Khan has attempted to shift the attention back onto Uber

The license expires on September 30.

In its decision, Transport for London singled out Uber's approach to reporting serious criminal offenses and how it conducts background checks on drivers.

Sadiq Khan tweeted, "I Fully support TfL's decision-it will be wrong if TfL continued to license Uber if there is any way that this could pose a threat to Londoners' safety and security".

Ride-hailing app Uber was prepared to make concessions over safety as it urged Transport for London (TfL) to reverse its decision not to renew the company's licence, the media reported. "But that required a dialogue we have not been able to have", said Tom Elvidge, Uber's General Manager in London. The company has spent millions of rupees to fix its broken image in a bid to overcome its past mishaps. "In doing so, we will show that Uber is not just a really great product, but a really great company that is meaningful contributing to society, beyond its business and its bottom line". "But as Uber's problems worsen, regulators feel emboldened to proceed and rightly sense that it's particularly urgent for them to do so".

He said Uber had to address safety concerns and it was important that there was a level playing field across the private hire market. London police investigated 32 Uber drivers for rape or sexual assault of a passenger between May 2015 and May 2016, according toFreedom of Information Act data obtained by the Sun.

A United Kingdom employment court ruled last October that Uber drivers were not self-employed, as the company argued, but should be paid the "national living wage" as if they were directly employed.

Uber's license in London has not been renewed.

In New York City, Austin, Texas and Washington, D.C., Uber hired political ad agencies and consultants and blasted political leaders for supporting measures that could eliminate jobs and worsen traffic.

Elvidge also told the paper that the regulators had refused over several months to talk substantively about the licence renewal or to specify what, if any, reforms it wanted from the company before relicensing it.

In a break with the startup's usual combative tone, Uber's new Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi asked London to please work with the ride service.

Uber has collected more than 600,000 signatures on a petition to protest the decision and is targeting 1 million supporters. "The big underlying dynamic is that the city government has chose to cave or protect the black cabs in London", he said.

But while Khosrowshahi expressed strong disagreement with the decision, he also demonstrated his ability to see the big picture-including past, present and future. The company has 3.5 million active users in London.
