Gabe Rosenberg, a spokesman from the Secretary of the State's Office, says the U.S. Department of Homeland Security informed the office Friday that the while the system was scanned by agents of the Russian government, it was not breached.

No breach occurred, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon said in a news release.

The news that states were targeted by Russian Federation was first announced by Homeland Security at a U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on June 21. He said that the system had recognized the IP addresses that were scanning the system and blocked them. Haas testified at that hearing that Wisconsin had not been notified of any hacking attempt by Homeland Security and concluded that Wisconsin was not a target. "Scanning from outside entities is commonplace and happens every day, which is why I continue to believe the most serious challenge to the integrity of our election system is the threat of outside forces, including foreign governments, who seek to disrupt and undermine our elections".

Dean says the scan targeted the state's computer network generally, and not the election board network specifically.

Federal authorities were in contact with all 50 states and six USA territories on Friday, Wyman said.

President Donald Trump on Friday called allegations of Russian election meddling a "hoax", and insisted the media was the "greatest influence" on the 2016 campaign.

A Bloomberg News story in June reported that during the 2016 elections, hackers hit voting systems or databases in 39 states.
