If Jerry Jones ever decides to sell the Dallas Cowboys, someone is going to have to write him a monstrous check because the team is now worth almost $5 billion.

The value of the Dallas Cowboys has increased by 14 percent in the previous year to reach $4.8 billion.

The Cowboys, heavily beaten 42-17 at the Denver Broncos on Sunday to fall to 1-1 this season, are up 14 per cent with profits of $350million, according to Forbes, "thanks to a booming merchandise business and the revenue opportunities at their new practice facility, The Star".

Here's a look at some of the interesting values in Forbes' rankings.

The Las Vegas-bound Raiders are 19th on the list at $2.38 billion, a one-year increase of 13 percent. Fans are also becoming "turned off by the gladiatorial nature of the sport" - but for now, the NFL remains the most lucrative league in the world by far.

The New England Patriots, the NFL's reigning Super Bowl champions, ranked second at $3.7 billion, followed by the New York Giants at $3.3 billion.

San Francisco ($3 billion) rounded out the teams worth at least $3 billion.

The Cowboys' new valuation means that they are now the world's most valuable franchise for the third straight year.
