Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day visit to Myanmar, said India shares Myanmar's concerns about extremist violence in Rakhine state and violence against security forces.

He also lauded Suu Kyi's leadership in Myanmar's peace process.

Myanmar has come under worldwide pressure after almost 125,000 Rohingya Muslims fled Rakhine after Rohingya insurgents attacked dozens of police posts and an army base.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday suggested the setting up of a memorial to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army (INA) in Myanmar.

"A commission led by former United Nations secretary-general Kofi Annan has recommended economic development and social justice to counter the deadly violence between Buddhists and Muslims in the Rakhine state", she added. A total of 11 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been signed between the two governments that entail an array of subjects such as maritime security cooperation, press relations between the two countries and cooperation between the Election Commission and Union Election of Myanmar.

Suu Kyi also thanked India for taking a strong stand on the terror threat that Myanmar faced recently.

"We've now committed to building a hospital in Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar), that is a new commitment that has come out of this visit".

"We (India and Myanmar) can together do a survey for an INA memorial here", he stated to much applause from the gathering.

Modi also asserted that India stands by Myanmar amid the challenges the country is facing.

Ahead of his visit, Modi had said India and Myanmar were looking at strengthening existing cooperation in areas of security and counter-terrorism, trade and investment, infrastructure and energy, and culture.

He said deepening the relationship with Myanmar was a priority for India, as a neighbour and also in the context of the "Act East Policy". Modi is also expected to raise the issue of the exodus of the ethnic Rohingyas into neighbouring countries.

India has additionally promised the Burmese government of it's intention to open two Industrial Training Centers to aid developmental activity in Myanmar.

Earlier, during the delegation-level talks, Modi said, "We would like to contribute to Myanmar's development efforts as part of our "Sabka saath sabka vikaas" initiative".

■ Modi arrived in Myanmar on the second leg of his two-nation trip during which he travelled to southeastern Chinese city Xiamen where he attended the annual Brics summit and held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other world leaders.

Earlier today, PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome from Myanmar President Htin Kyaw before the two inspected the guard of honour in Naypyidaw.
