A live mosquito has tested positive for West Nile virus in Rockwall, but there are no reported human cases of West Nile virus within the city limits.

The Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO) reported a human West Nile virus (WNV) case in an individual who lives in an agricultural area in Argolida, Peloponnese.

West Nile virus has been confirmed in more than a dozen mosquito samples in St. Tammany Parish, officials confirmed. "They include fever, nausea, headache and muscle aches".

With another positive testing for West Nile Virus in an animal, the Livingston County Health Department is reminding residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Mosquitos breed in stagnant, standing fresh water. While West Nile can infect people of all ages, people over the age of 50 are at higher risk for severe infection.

If symptoms are going to show up, they'll appear between two days and two weeks after a person is bitten by an infected mosquito. He reminded people to wear layers of bug spray, eliminate standing pools of water and use caution when outdoors.

Severe neuroinvasive disease, often involving encephalitis, can occur, more commonly in older adults; and, in rare cases, long-term disability or death can result from the disease. People need to be vigilant about personal protection.

The department said a middle-aged Ida County man tested positive for the virus, but was not hospitalized and is recovering.

Additional information on West Nile can be found here.

-Wear shoes, socks, long sleeve shirts and trousers when outdoors during dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most prevalent. Use an EPA-registered insect repellent such as those containing DEET.
